Cradle of Humankind is currently covering the 47,000 hectares in South Africa and composed of complex of limestone caves. Sterkfontein Caves also lies beneath this place which is known as the home of a 2.3-million year-old fossil Australopithecus africanus aka “Mrs. Ples”. This fossil was found by Dr. Robert Broom and John T. Robinson, both Palaeontologists, way back 1947. After that incidence, several palaeontologists found huge number of hominid fossils and on December 7, 2005, President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa open Maropeng Visitors Centre to public.
