North West Province of South Africa


North West Province of South Africa has been a home for Big 5 Safari reserves and other different tourist attractions. This province reminds of the wild, rugged landscape, rich in fertile land and culture heritage of the African bush. This particular state is situated several hours from Gauteng. Tourism also in this province is extremely extraordinary because of the wide selection of things you can do. Some of the amazing places to visit are Sun City Resort, Kruger National Park, Table Mountain NP, Phinda, Cape Town & environs, Drakensberg Mountains, Panorama Route and Kimberly Diamond Mines just to name a few.

The North West Province provides excellent destination for holidays, family getaways, team building visits or if you are only wanting to take great scenery of the nature. With Johannesburg which is simply a couple of hours away, this province offers easy accessibility to the people who want to see the attractions. The range of activities, scenery and cultures ensures an all-round destination that may charm to travellers of all ages. The perfect climate is also one of the best factors to go out and see the entire North West Province.
Sun City Resort was developed by the hotel magnate Sol Kerzner and was officially opened on 7 December 1979. It is about two hours to drive from Johannesburg, near the city of Rustenburg. It has 4 hotels which include Sun City Hotel, Cascades Hotel, The Cabanas and the The Palace of the Lost City. This place has hosted several concerts and event and is globally recognized as the ultimate African Experience.

Kruger National Park is one of largest and best known reserve in South Africa. This park was established way 1898 to protect the wildlife of the South African. It has been reserved and a home to a massive number of animals and species ranging from fishes to amphibians, from reptiles to mammals and trees to birds.

Pilanesberg National Park or Pilanesberg Game Reserve covers around 55,000 hectares and is known to be a malaria-free environment. This area is also a home of the big 5 such as leopard, elephant, cape buffalo, lions and rhinoceros. This Park is actually located about 40Km north of Rustenburg. If you have camera in your hand, this is the wonderful chance to capture those amazing and huge animals.

Hartebeespoort Dam also known as Hartbeespoort Dam Reservoir and if you were coming from Rustenburg, the distance is approximately 79 kms or you will reach this dam in more than an hour depending on the traffic condition. This dam is very popular for water sports like windsurfing, para-sailing, river rafting and even water and jet skiing. The dam has an amazing aquarium, a private zoo, a snake park and a cable way which you can enjoy throughout the whole day.

Cradle of Humankind is currently covering the 47,000 hectares in South Africa and composed of complex of limestone caves. Sterkfontein Caves also lies beneath this place which is known as the home of a 2.3-million year-old fossil Australopithecus africanus aka “Mrs. Ples”. This fossil was found by Dr. Robert Broom and John T. Robinson, both Palaeontologists, way back 1947. After that incidence, several palaeontologists found huge number of hominid fossils and on December 7, 2005, President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa open Maropeng Visitors Centre to public.

Platinum Square is located in Rustenburg and it has recently opened its doors to the public on 29th of November 2012. This is a shop til’ you drop shopping mall and is currently having more than 50 stores to choose from. The shopping mall is covering the entire 30,000 m², has a beautiful landscape, and a 24-hour security to ensure you enjoy your visit there.
