North West Province of South Africa

Sterkfontein Caves also lies beneath this place which is known as the home of a 2.3-million year-old fossil Australopithecus africanus aka “Mrs. Ples”. This fossil was found by Dr. Robert Broom and John T. Robinson, both Palaeontologists, way back 1947. After that incidence, several palaeontologists found huge number of hominid fossils and on December 7, 2005, President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa open Maropeng Visitors Centre to public.
